Kathleen Finerty was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She earned her degree in Nursing at Jefferson State Community College and furthered her education at Bevill State Community College and then on to the University of Alabama.
She also attended Bessemer State Technical College where she was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician, Intermediate level. She worked with her local Fire Department as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT.
